Ray,

What needed fixing and how did you do it?

Nice condition and an attractive movement.

Jon

Hi Jon, you are going to laugh; I had previously soaked it in White Spirit a number of times with no result. I have another brew that is used to clean Dies and I left it in for a couple of Days; when I oiled it away it went. A total success. I don't know what the Die Cleaning Brew is, because the person who I got it off has moved to South Australia and I have lost contact with him. Regards Ray

Strange Brew (Cream)--find the chap, get the mix, analyze it, and then we can market it to watch sellers and make a killing? Laughing

Jon

PS I hope you rinced off your movement.

Hi Jon, that Watch movement was cleaner than me, and I have 4 to 5 Showers a Day because of the heat.

Who pays the water bill?

And, I hope the watches are not exposed to all that humidity from those showers!

Hi Jon, Territory Housing pays the Water Bill; during the Dry Season there is very low Humidity, so no problem; in the Wet Season two Air Conditioners solve the Humidity problem; the Electricity Bill is not a problem; for the Year I pay about AU$150; the Government pays the rest; this is why I live in the Northern Territory, old People are looked after. There are not a lot of old People; about 800 over 75 Years old out of a Population of 245,000. I have no problem with Rusty Movements and Pocket Watches. I have an Article on George Washington about the Family living in England showing Houses etc. I will post it if you want me to? Regards Ray

Ray -

I have 2 questions:

OF course I am not disagreeing with you, just curious as how you define this movement to be "high Grade".

I do hope you dismantle these movements completely when you are cleaning them. Also, some of these chemicals may attack the gilding.

Hi Neil, I do not dismantle fusee and verge movements completely (if it ain't broke don't fix it). With movements this old 200 to 300 years old, the chance of breaking something when dismantling is very very High, if you break something you have to make it, parts from a movement from the same maker will not fit; not like Machine Made American movements where there are plenty of parts available; also when you dismantle Fusee and Verge movements they never go back the same as they were before you dismantled them. The Chemicals I use do not attack Gold Gilding; not much attacks Gold. If you look at the Balance Wheel you will see it is not a common or Garden variety Fusee Balance Wheel; also it has a Massey 2 escapement and the workmanship is very good. Thanks for your interest. Regards Ray
