I am trying to get some info on this watch. Does it look familiar to anyone? It is in a gold reversible case. Thanks, DA |

This is one of those classic unhelpful replies
I've seen that movement, but I can't remember where, and I've seen that heraldic emblem but I can't remember that either
The emblem on the dial is, I think, a generic emblem for one or more of the smaller European countries ... maybe Lichtenstein or Rumania or one of those.
I'm sure that I've seen that movement posted on the NAWCC board in the past few months, but I have no idea how I might search for it. Have you tried the Ranfft site at http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&85&2uswk? I confess that I don't know how to use this properly, but a browse through the G-P section might turn up your movement. |

I was about to post a picture of my new watch and I see it is already here.
Cool.
Did anyone find out anything more about it. |

Here it is again after I had a little fiddle with it.
The chain was in stock waiting for a suitable watch to go with it.
I think it works. |

I have finally found what the crest on this watch is.
It is the coat of arms for Chile.

I also found this little bit of information that ties the maker to the location.
In 1865, Gerard-Perregaux opened a dealership in Buenos Aires, headed by another of Constant Girard-Perregaux’s brothers-in-law, Henri Perregaux. It was to welcome some of the Manufacture’s finest creations: tourbillons, minute repeaters and other refined Grande Complication models with weighty, richly decorated cases that delighted wealthy South American clients. "
This is the closest I have found to the movement but as you can see from the description the seller didn't know what it was either.

A good friends Son is doing a Masters in history and was interested when I told him about it.
He wrote -
If I was to officially discribe it: I would say: Party per fess Azure et Gules avec un Mullet d'Argent.
Or in full (and in English): Dexter Huemul proper with golden naval crown and Sinister Condor proper with golden naval crown.
It is interesting to note that this coat of arms does not contains the pedestal and motto of Chile:
" Por la razón o la fuerza" I.e: "By reason of by force.".
The star is five pointed, apparently to represent the province of Santiago, the capital of Chile. |
