Hi, here are Two Desbois & Wheeler movements, the first movement has been converted to a Freesprung movement from a Bosely Regulator. The second movement has a Compensation Curb on the Bosely Regulator Lever. The Hinge has been broken off when a Gold scrapper twisted the Case off the movement. Some information on Desbois & Wheeler:
Tony Mercer show them as a chronometer maker (not just a retailer) who also made for the Admiralty, located at 9 Grays Innn Passage from 1803-35. He says there is a chronometer #276 in the Guildhall Museum dated 1830.
Loomes shows:
Desbois & Wheeler in Grays Inn Passage from 1790-1835.
Daniel Desbois (I) born c.1771, apprenticed to John Johnson whom he succeeded, working from 1790s, died 1846.
Daniel Desbois (II) born c.1799, son of Daniel Desbois (I) whom he succeeded in 1846, moved to High Holborn, died 1875 or 1885.
Edwin Desbois, son of Daniel II, at High Holborn later Brownlow St, succeeded Daniel II in 1885, died 1917.
Ernest Desbois, son of Ediwn, succceeded Edwin 1917, died 1951.
So a watchmaking family of four generations! |

Nice examples--I had a few to show you but the photography is on the blink, maybe that wet white stuff that fell today and it like it should have been Christmas! |
