From Danny Horan, Horan is investing heavily in developing a proprietary bidding platform, which may later be marketed to other auctioneers. “We want more communication with our buyers and we want to be able to be certain that online bidders are serious and financially sound,” said Horan. “We’re experimenting with ways to do that and we did some testing at this recent sale. I think this software will revolutionize online bidding."

God help those of us who attend, support, correctly access, bid and buy, pay for and remove won lots with good checks WITHOUT FLOAT BUYING at public sales! Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil Mr. Green

AND, the 50 lot an hour auction...............yikes!

Neil, it is slow auction payer or those who get free credit or floats for buys which is unfair to all other immediate payers.

I have heard through the grapevine that the NY WW bunch are running auction to auction, trying to generate funds to pay for the last auction!

How do you make sure someone is "financially sound?"

I emailed Daniel directly re this situation - here is his answer:

Dear Neil,

You can be assured that we are not “means testing” or trying to judge our clients financial soundness with our new software. It will be offered as a convenience to our established customers primarily so they can save 5% on the eBay live or invaluable fee. The confusion may have arisen from the fact that our new system will eventually be able to charge a credit card immediately upon success of a winning bid.

Hi Daniel -

There was a discussion on one of the watch chapters on the new bidding platform that RO Schmitt is implementing. Part of a conversation with you re making sure of the bidders "ability to pay"?

I think the phrase was "financially sound"?

This disturbed a few people - so I am asking you directly - what did you mean by this? Who is it directed at? Will customers like me be affected?

I sent in my checks last week - hopefully you have them in hand by now?

Thanks again in advance!

I would think that any AH should want to know the strong and weak paying buyers; otherwise, it would be a disservice to them and their consignors!

Who would want bids from the financial UNSOUND?

I subscribe to a discount for the fast/immediate paying buyers!
