The European stuff and WW's - because they are better documented will continue to appreciate - but the bulk of collectors are overseas now. |
There always were more watches than collectors, but not at past insane levels.
Listen, common crap and RRs were always overpriced--too much investing and speculation. Actually, there were too many watches bought and run up price wise by the ignorant and ill informed. However, with the exception of Bonham#!, how many rarities have appeared since? Maybe just maybe levels are (ill correct) correcting to sane levels which ultimately will bring back new collectors/collecting. |

I think one of the things that has changed is the alternatives to collecting watches.
I you stop thinking about watch collectors in exclusion and think about "collectors" in general there are only so many people motivated to collect stuff.
What the internet has done is give exposure to a lot of other stuff and perhaps the overall number of collectors has stayed the same but the competition from other things has increased.
It is now a lot easier to get information and meet other people who collect obscure things like railway tickets or spark plugs or fishing reels or whatever.
Simply put there is a lot more choices for collectors especially when you get to the point where the watches are not worn or used.
They become just another object to collect.
If the motivation is collecting and research and not using you can have just as much fun collecting many things. Especially if a group forms. |

Jon,
Who is jumbo jet? (?Odermott) and what are the 4 watches he bought at Bonhams?
Lastly, will these watches come back on sale shortly or have they already
been sold?
