Ever notice all of the countless number of caseless movements offered on fleabay lately by some of the so-called BIG dealers and experts?

WELL, THESE BUTCHERS ARE SCRAPPING GOLD FILLED cases like there is no tomorrow; this has been going on for sometime, but has been more apparent of late.

Now worn to brass, damaged, small size junky cases, etc. are one thing but the question begs--how many are original and contain some date, horological or historical significance? After all, GF cases aren't worth that much (unlike solid gold)--all of this must be causing the rapid rise in demand and price of glass back cases. Yet again, the continued cause for more and more SWITCHING and ruination of 7-15 jeweled common watches sacrificed for rarer and/or higher jeweled movements is also more prevalent.

What a bunch of greedy b.......!

I just assumed now that gold has dropped - people are just taking all the movements they removed from all the gold cases of the last 4-5 years and now putting them on eBay. Hence the flood of caseless movements.

Things are still tough out there and now that gold has dropped, but people are not back to their old buying habits, so jewelers and dealers are getting desperate and now scraping the bottom of the barrel for $.

Perhaps they are dumping them as fast as they can in anticipation of a further drop in gold prices ???

This bodes poorly for new players because there will be less and less affordable watches to get them started.

When I was just getting started, I would not have considered buying a caseless movement, expecting that I would soon run into a good cased version.
Years later you discover that a) you might never get some cased versions without an expensive fight, b) the difference between cased and uncased is not as great as it once seemed (because you're not carrying but a few watches anyway), and c) the old-time and long-time collectors had movement-only collections, why can't I?

Hence, a market.
