I have a couple in the 5-6 oz range, but I don't think I've ever seen one that big.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing pictures. |

I have an 8-oz hunter that I bought with a partial '57 movement some years ago. You would not want to be swept off a ship with this thing in your pocket. I can't even conceive of a 12-oz case. |

I emailed a picture of the case to Jon. The picture includes a 6oz case and a 3oz case next to it. I guess he is too busy to post it on my behalf. I tried posting it but the website will not accomodate the pic as it is larger than 1 MB.
IF you all want I can email it to you individually, just post your email address to me privately and I will send you a picture for you to enjoy!!

To Both Steve and Wayne - thanks for your help in resizing this pic to fit in this forum's parameters.
As you all can see, the case on the left is 3oz, the case on the right is 6oz, and my Whopper in the middle is 12oz.
Somebody asked if they were made bigger, and the answer is yes. I have seen an English center seconds chronograph in a 20 OZ case!!
It was open face and looked like one of Flavor Flav's clocks - ROFLMAO!!!

Neil, have you checked the "springs" on these cases? I wonder whether the weight is being made up with lead fillers?
What is the diameter of that 12oz case? I'm really struggling to imagine how heavy the gauge must be to weigh that much
Incidentally, you forgot to include in your photo the miniature crane supplied for the owenr to lift the watch up |

It is 2.67 inches across, and almost 1 inch thick. The lift spring is completely missing. The release spring is still there and surprisingly thin for a case of this size. No lead filler in this Baby!!
Unfortunately the hinges are damaged and were gold originally. I have to find someone that knows how to do a perfect job, and not to keep it for a year!!
They wanted too much money for the crane, so I left it behind - LOL!!
By the way I miked up the thickness of the lids - they are 0.1 inch or 2.57 mm thick Let me know what guage that translates to!

I think that's what they call "body armour gauge" |

It came with a 7J Wm Ellery -Waltham mov't. 700,000 range. I was told that this grade movement was typical of those extreme cases.
I think earlier in this thread someone said people who bought these watches thought heavy cases was a sign of High Quality. They usually came with lower grade movements.
Having said that, I'd like to put in a very cool movement. But there isn't much in the Waltham Family other than AT and Co to put in there. Off the top of my head, There are no American Watch Co 18s KW that I can put in, unless I am forgetting something?
Now that I have this, I am seriously considering selling off most of my 6oz cases. I have 4 or 5. I plan to ask $700 each. Would anybody be interested at that price?

I am resurrecting this thread for Jon to look at a picture of this case. |

No wonder I missed it--the messages are 3+ yrs old!
Any hallmarks?
I remember now but I am unable to do much with photos these days.
My scanner isn't doing the things it one did (new procedures) and my camera using the Cote method isn't working either. This is why I have not been posting photos. |
