It is heavy brass on very old 1 inch board, lettering is sunk and edges are tapered/ beveled (as made--not split corners as they are solid formed brass) like a frame on the board meeting its edge.

Bowman began teaching in 1882 and incorporated his school in 1887.

I believe this 30 x 10" sign originally hung over the doorway entrance to the school in the original building.

The sign is signed "-CAIN-" on the lower left of the brass right of the screw. (enlarge the photo to view it).

Directly acquired from the Bowman building contents by yours truly over 30 years ago.

An early, highly prized and unique historical watch company sign.

Jon,

What a fantastic and unique sign that has it all.......age, old brass with embossed lettering and a famous and rare American maker.

Thanks for posting and dig out more great things for us to see and appreciate.

If it was for sale, wouldn't it be wiser to place it in the chapter EMART?

Here is Ezra Bowman's Tool Cabinet from his Workshop. I had it restored into a watch and artifact cabinet. I have the photos to prove it!

Just peek into the bottom part of the cabinet.

Formerly from Jon's Collection, This cabinet is for sale.
