Today is an anniversary.

It's 50 years since compulsory wearing of seat belts in your car cam in.

It started here in Victoria Australia.

The national road toll in 1970 was 3798

Last year was 1200.

I think the idea helped.

Stephen,

I can't stand them around me and don't wear them and unhooked the electric clip under the seat for the warning light.

So you are giving credit to the seat belts?

What about air bags and 20 other safety features the car has incorporated in 50 years?

Jim,

I am saying they helped. Not that they did it all.

By the way did you know US air bags are different.

Because seatbelts are optional for you the air bags have to be designed as a primary accident restraint.

Around here because seat belts are compulsory air bags are considered a secondary or additional device.

Bottom line is ours are not a violent when they go off.

Another fact for your book of useless information.
