Townsville in Northern Queensland is experiencing a 1 in 100 year flood.

The airport has recorded over 1 meter of rain in the last 7 days.

Water everywhere and still raining.

Last night the results of the Royal Commission into the Banking industry in Australia were made public. Will be interesting to see what come from all this.
A number of matters have been sent on for criminal investigation and a number of persons singled out. I suspect heads will roll.
73 recommendations have been made and with an election close to hand both sides will be eager to follow them up. We can only hope they don't go to far.

Today is the 10 year anniversary of the Black Saturday bush fires.
Many people were effected and the town of Marysville was all but wiped out.
172 people lost their lives.
A good friend of mine lost everything.
Our thoughts to all those still trying to recover from that day.

and today we hear that the CEO and the chair of NAB have both resigned.

I believe there has also been a huge drug bust.

1.7 tons of ice and it was coming here from the US.

Authorities on both sides co operated to make this happen.

We need to get tough with these people.

Time to bring back the rope. Evil or Very Mad

All that flood water that has caused so much hardship for some farmers is finally doing some good for others.

Amazing how far the water has spread.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-02-23/cattle-producers-welcome-floodwater-that-devastated-neighbours/10843080

Some of it will end up in Lake Eyre and to get an idea how far that is check out this link

Lots of fuss over the last couple of days about Lawyer X
I will let you look it up if you feel so inclined but the basic plot is about a person who became a police informant.

Nothing special about that, happens all the time but on this occasion the informant was a defense lawyer.

Turns out Lawyer X was a very high profile defense lawyer who was involved with some high profile criminal cases but at the same time was acting as a police informant. We are not talking months here but years.

Now there is a Royal Commission and a huge line of convicted criminals crying foul and looking for a get out of jail plus some serious compensation. This will go on for years and make some people rich.

The police have spent a bunch of cash trying to keep the name suppressed but they finally lost that one a couple of days ago.

It now remains to see what the end result will be.

No doubt a few bad guys will get off and a few more will get another day in court. The only losers I suspect will be taxpayers who will end up footing the bill.

Today will be all about Pell.

Today we will discover his fate and the Judge concerned has allowed his findings to be broadcast live which does not happen very often.

No doubt whatever happens this is not over yet.

Pell got 6 years with a min of 3 years 8 months.

The judge spoke for nearly an hour.

After hearing the details about the things he did he got off light.

A lot of fuss in the media today about "Egg Boy"

Basically some dick head politician opened his big mouth and made some very low and stupid statements about a recent event.
The next day a young kid decided to confront him about it and smashed an egg over said politician's head. There was a scuffle and some blows exchanged there after.

This in turn has gone viral and the kid is being showered with free gifts and money to fund any legal action etc etc.

Yes the politician is a low life and due to our stupid preferential voting system he got in with only 19 primary votes. Shocked

That's what we should be talking about.

But it isn't and the discussion surrounds egg boy and the right or wrong of what he did and the right or wrong of those rewarding him for his actions.

For my part the missing link is a mechanism that provides a way to throw out politicians who demonstrate by their actions that they do not deserve the position they have been given.

We shouldn't be stuck with them for 4 years.

There has been a story brewing away in the background for some time that is just now coming to notice.
It concerns parking fines.

All councils like to issue parking fines and and like so many other things someone came up with the idea to privatize the service.
The councils thought this was a great idea as they wouldn't have to do anything any more. Just sit back and watch the cash stream in.

Fast forward to now and some legal gent stumbled across a law somewhere that basically says that if you have a problem and object to a fine the issuing authority ( not their agent ) has to investigate your claim.

He used this to challenge a fine in court and won and this has set a precedent and all fines that were investigated by an agent are now void and have to be refunded.

For some councils this goes back over 10 years and the sums involved are into the millions.

Happy days for the long suffering motorists who have had a win for a change.

In the US We have what is a recall election. If enough people petition, that will set up a special election where if enough people vote, the pol can be removed from office!

That sounds like a very good idea. How often has it been used ?
