Jon -

I am shocked speechless over this thread.

The reason being is I was the seller of this exact watch on eBay.

I sold it as a BRASS case.

Embarassed

The amount of ignorance in this and other things is staggering and allows the sharks of the world to carve up all the know it all guppies into bait. Geno

Does Coatsworth still have posting capabilities here on 149?

Buyers name (as posted on the MB)

Rayshawn David

Hamlet, North Carolina

I tried to sway him on the case content. He was very sure that the case was not brass but some kind gold-like material, like pinchbeck.

Jon what is the other name for gold like metal used for early cases??

He was happy with the watch and left me positive feedback.

Originally I purchased this watch because this run is listed in the Ledger as having 11j.

Because the jewels were frictioned in instead of in settings, I got a little excited thinking this may be the 11j variant I have been looking for forever.

I took the dial off and it turns out to have 15j, so the Ledger is mistaken.

Since I didn't need it, back onto eBay it went.

But it looks like I stirred things up again! Rolling Eyes

When will the national folks learn and get mods they KNOW WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING? Or, maybe they are too lazy to follow the threads?

I think the national needs to have a scrapping seminar; and, then graduate the topic to a webinar!

The poster/buyer of Neil's watch is so obviously looking for scrapping information.

ole Rayshawn has posted bunch of "stuff" and made conclusions which many have turned unfounded on items having gold content...

don't think he "gets" what is truly gold filled or its definition... has stated in a few instances where is scrapper paid him for X carat gold on a case that is obviously filled...

he keeps bringin em out of the woodwork and presenting them for opinions....

most of the posts are comical.

Is this what you were thinking off.

They don't mark the case and if the label is removed they become a bit controversial at times. People try and pass them off as low crt gold.

" Less then 9 which is why it isn't marked " Shocked

The case in question was a bit older - like 30 years older.

I'll try to dig my orig eBay listing so you all have a frame of reference.
