An internet acquaintance has studied this company and watch cases for a number of years and has recently built a website with the information:

The American Watch Case Company of Toronto

Hi Darrah -

Looks like he did a fantastic job not just with the research but also with the website itself.

I was hoping to do something like this - but it looks like he is hosting the site himself rather than using a webhost like godaddy.com.

How do you suggest I do something like this - I want to start posting my watches as part of my goal of documenting all the watches they made.

It takes an effort to host ones own web server and there is a learning curve that most 'non-computer' persons can tolerate. let alone computer persons. Read up on Wordpress and see what you think.

Sites like GoDaddy, Homestead, etc. will allow you to get a site up and running quicker but there is a cost. You have to decide. GoDaddy.com seems to be talked about quite a bit. I use Homestead because I inherited the site that is grandfathered into our Chapter. You will have to do some home work.

Another option is to have someone set up the site for you and support it but that takes money and you lose much control. Good luck on your wish.

You could always ask him what he did.
He might be pleased to share.
There are several sites I visit devoted to full size VR steam locomotives.
Put up by people with large collections of pictures they wish to share.
It is pretty obvious that they are helping each other.

I agree this guy has done a great job.

Neil

I think Lorne is using wordpress. He has 8 pages completed and if you look at the bottom of each page there is a link to Blog at WordPress . com.

Lorne has setup the website for 15 pages and he has page 9 listed as coming soon.

WordPress minimum charge $18/yr for domain name and $4/mo for a web site.

OH - Why did I think it was for free?? Crying or Very sad

In that case maybe GoDaddy would be the better option?

I think most of them have a fee of some sort.
