Some number of years ago I noted the collecting community about the unscrupulous making/reproducing FAKE 16s Waltham brotherhood disks for 16s Waltham movement switching and thus creating FAKE rarities. Check for "fiddling" (scratch) marks around the disks from prying and dials that do not match the logo!

I see some of these showing up lately on auctions sites and eBay. If I were a newbie Ball watch collector, I'd be nervous so BEWARE!

Jon -

This has been a MAJOR concern of mine also for sometime.

I have been warned also BUT there is Absolutely NO way to know for certain because whoever is doing it picking those from known Brotherhood runs to convert these watches.

I have been also warned that certain brotherhood combinations did not exist in certain jewel counts.

But there is no LIST or accurate documentation for us to know what to avoid!

What do I do? I am very interested in putting together a set of all those Wallie Balls from the Brotherhood Series.

Buy VIRGINS or from VIRGIN sources--one the money boys get ahold of this stuff--WATCH OUT!

And, it just isn't the 16 sizes with the disks & dials; it is all of the dial switches with 18s Hamilton movements.

I used to know what dial was acceptable for what 18s Hamilton grade and period. That info is mostly lost to me now, but it's there to re-learn.
K.

But yea, I used to see that kind of careless or intentional switching all the time, with nary a comment about it. I'd always rather have a dial chip in a 932 than a wrong dial. Actually, I'm still looking for an undicked-with version of that grade.
