http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?132232-Howard-series-III-Key-Wind-Anomaly

Impossible for this to be a 3041 movement--wrong style, wrong size, wrong plate AND series III E Howard movements began at 3301!!!

Haven't the folks ever hear of metal wear--in this case the stamp punching; or, poorly centered when punched.

I still believe the problem is the unwillingness of seasoned collectors to openly share information.

No doubt you will all shoot me down for this but here is the problem.

Sites like this one - http://www.antique-pocket-watch.com/howard-pocket-watch.html

Notice how it links the initial factual description to a whole bunch of ebay adds that all have their own additional descriptions in them.

So what does the newbie get to read.

Not the truth for sure but in the absence of a proper authoritative history he takes what he can get.

I can hear the calls already that he should have gone out and bought the book or done his homework just like all the old guys did.

But the world is different now and the only way to stop the shafting and the deceptions is to put the truth out there for all to see.

Until we do that the deceptions will continue and perhaps that is why less and less people are taking up watch collecting.

Most public sites are run by amateurs, not true experts.

We have the MP which once was well received and used and now few use it.

Everybody thinks they are an expert and few desire to really learn horology nowadays.

If you take the time to look at the collectable car market the ones that hold their value and keep increasing in value are the ones where the most information is known.

Plus having all that information out there does not appear to stop a bunch of people making a bunch of money buying and trading in them.

You can still overpay but it is harder to get shafted and easier to attract new players.

Agreed, when all are "experts" there is no market; however, collections are built, some and new collectors evolve.

Just think of this--everyone on fleabay knows all the values, ins and outs and NOTHING HAPPENS!

As an adjunct to the above statement, the clock boys figure that it will take many decades (even 3-4) for new folks to rediscover an old collectible/hobby!

You got it--the kaka will be everywhere (who cares) and the GsOTFW will continue to be salted away, or in museums.

But the hobby will shrink to just a few loyal fans.

Not much point having the best collection of whatever if nobody is interested in them.

Crying or Very sad

Collections are like gardens, every so often you have to weed out the losers and always look to upgrade. Geno
