Remember "some people" like to write and write about "off" subjects, like they are reinventing the wheel on topics such as Thomas Russell of which just a few paragraphs can explain most of it.

Also, take note there are many English watches/ebauches with American names or dealer/jeweler names that some folks are trying to Americanize, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS--like they are trying to make them significant. Rolling Eyes

eh, try this:
Mysteries around early watches are fun. Why not write about it? Folks like yourself (and me, too) are always looking for additional information about the machinations and historical movements of Royal Robbins and Dennison and Howard etc. around early watchmaking efforts in Roxbury and Waltham. There are still some unknowns. Plenty written about it. More will be. Lots of people, collectors or not, aren't interested in that history. But we are!

MY point: some folks need to focus their energies on better topics, rather than speculations, guesswork, yacking, seeing their names in print and wheel re-invention.

Listen, I do this this stuff 24x7 and find new "things/discoveries" regularly. It is fun. I will never stop. I believe there are always new things and info to be found, and I am still working away at it.............but, James Russell? Rolling Eyes Shocked

There was another maker Nathaniel ______ of New Hampshire, I believe.

There were a few who believed that this was another early maker that used Waltham Parts.

I had a chance to dismantle one of these - and right away I could see that it was English.

The seller did not believe me and continued to try to sell it as a previously unknown early Waltham. Nobody bought it.
